Listening to singing bowls balances and relaxes the body and mind by producing a healing resonance.

Sound vibration has been used for thousands of years across different cultures to release pent up energy, activate the rest-and-digest state and experience deep relaxation and healing. The first time I listened to a sound bath, it felt like every cell in my body was filled with radiant energy. Tension started to melt away and my thoughts became slower and quieter.

It wasn’t until I took my first sound healing training with Kinsey at The Sound Space that I started to understand the science behind sound. Albert Einstein said “everything in life is a vibration.” All material in the universe is vibrating, including sound. Every sound has a frequency, which is measured in hertz (Hz). The resonance frequency is the oscillation of the sound in its natural state. As humans, we can hear between 20 and 20,000 Hz. Sound passes through the eardrum and the ossicles transmit the sound waves to the inner ear and cochlea, where hair cells vibrate, sending an electrical signal down the auditory nerve in the brain. Sound is also transmitted through the physical body via water, fascia and bones.

Listening to in-tune, natural and harmonic sounds can be used to positively impact the body, emotions and brain.

What are the benefits of sound?

  • Stimulates the vagus nerve, which activates the parasympathetic nervous system
    • Allows the body to digest, detoxify and rest. The heart rate and blood pressure are lowered and the immune system is boosted
  • Reduces cortisol, leading to less stress and anxiety
  • Allows us to move from the beta brainwaves (a state of alertness) to alpha (relaxed and present) and theta (deep relaxation, meditation, healing)
  • Synchronizes the left and right brain hemispheres
  • Improves sleep
  • Boosts mood by increasing endorphins and serotonin
  • Enhances creativity and communication
  • Relieves pain and inflammation
  • Balances the chakras (seven main energy centers in the body), leading to more harmony

When is a good time for sound healing?

Sound healing can be done anytime! I gravitate toward sound healing during meditation, after I’ve had a stressful day or before bed to help me transition into sleep, but I recommend using sound whenever you feel called to it. Try out different times and see what feels most impactful for you.

Are you ready to try it out? You can listen to a sound bath at home by pressing play on the video below. I recommend finding a comfortable space with limited distractions and closing your eyes or using an eye pillow.

In this video, I play crystal alchemy singing bowls from Crystal Tones. They are made with quartz crystal, gemstones and precious metals, producing a uniquely healing resonance. It is important to note that no medical claims have been made about the use of crystal bowls.

How do you feel after taking the time to tune into the healing resonance? You can come back to this video any time to experience the benefits. Stay tuned for more sound baths by subscribing to my YouTube channel.

I am here to support you in every step of this journey. If you have any questions, send me an email using the contact form.

With healing energy,
Shannon
