Reflect on the things you are ready to let go of in order to create more space for what you want to cultivate in the new year.
This time of year fills me with a rush of energy and excitement as I reflect and envision all the possibilities for the year ahead. One thing I’ve learned from the trial and error of goal setting is that mindset matters. It is important to release heavy emotions and negative perspectives in order to achieve more.
5 things to let go of in 2025 to step into your power
1. Repeating “new year, new you”
This phrase gives me the ick. It sounds like something is inherently wrong with the person I am right now.
Here’s the thing, every version of ourselves and every mistake we’ve made is an opportunity to learn and grow. We need to embrace and love these parts of ourselves to shift our mindset. Then, we can step into our power and determine how we want to show up now.
2. Writing down a list of resolutions
I’ll admit that a part of me enjoys setting goals (and it all lives in a spreadsheet somewhere). But setting new year’s resolutions rarely works for me.
Resolutions are strict and rigid, leaving little room for creativity to pivot. Additionally, resolutions are based on what we are lacking or want to change, which is rooted in negativity.
Instead, setting powerful intentions based on what you want to cultivate more of in your life is not only easier to follow, but will help you achieve bigger results.
3. Sacrificing self-care
I am guilty of sacrificing exercise, meditation or rest when I feel like I have a lot on my plate. But taking care of myself is vital to replenish my energy. We can be more productive and creative when we fill up our cup — and we can show up better for others. Journaling, meditating, yoga and walking outdoors are a few of my favorite methods.
4. Making decisions from a scarcity mindset
Time and money are two of our most important resources — and it is something most of us feel like we don’t have enough of. I’ve pushed off the class I wanted to sign up for because it was a stretch for my budget. But investing in myself allows me to get out of my comfort zone and learn new skills. When it’s aligned with your purpose, you will see a positive return.
5. Feeling like you have to do it alone
I was raised to be resourceful and independent, which has served me well in my career. But I’ve realized I can get so much more done when I accept help. Receiving guidance from mentors and working with a coach has helped me stay accountable and see new possibilities. You don’t have to do it alone.
I am excited to announce a group coaching cocoon starting in January called “Step Into Your Power.” We will learn techniques to regulate our nervous system, shift our mindset, get clear on our intentions and take action on our dreams through coaching and community.
You can read about the details of the program here. If you are interested in learning more, you can send me an email at shannonkyeager@gmail.com or book a discovery call with me here to chat. I would be honored to support you as we create a powerful year ahead.
However you ring in the new year, I encourage you to take a moment to fill up your cup and manifest the things your heart desires.
With hope and forward momentum,
Shannon
