Not long after my daughter was born, I felt a tug between wanting to be fully dedicated as a mother and wanting to pursue my career. I found immense joy in snuggling with my little one, going on stroller walks with SD Mom Crew and splashing during bath time. I didn’t want to give up those moments, but I also wanted to make an income doing something I was passionate about. I wanted a role that was fulfilling, aligned with my purpose and provided flexibility. The problem was that I didn’t know what that would look like or how I was going to get there. I felt overwhelmed, stuck and anxious.
During times of change, I’ve always found practices like breath work and meditation to be transformative in journey, so I decided to start there. I figured if I could calm my mind, I could lift the fog and see the path forward more clearly. I started incorporating box breathing and a body scan meditation into my morning routine. I would play a sound bath while nursing my daughter. I listened to yoga nidra before bed. These little moments of self-care helped me regulate my nervous system and get out of “fight or flight” mode.
Once I started to slow down, I was able to access my intuition. I started asking myself the big questions, like “what is my heart’s desire?” And “what is my purpose in life?” All I had to do was trust in the process and listen. I was able to discover new possibilities and visualize a life beyond my wildest dreams. I knew I needed to share this process with other moms and not long after, Expand Beyond was born.
